Georgia Tech strives to create an environment where international students and scholars are able to make a well-integrated transition to Georgia Tech through diverse cultural, educational and leadership opportunities. The goal is to be the model in building and maintaining an international community in a campus environment with the aim to create lifelong global leaders.
The Office of International Education based on the Atlanta campus provides the parameters that the local Designated School Officer (DSO) follows when assisting the local international student community. Georgia Tech Savannah (GTS) has a broad international base of F-1 and J-1 undergraduate and graduate students and in 2009, GTS was established as another SEVIS site under the umbrella of Georgia Tech. This has afforded new students, as well as transfer students, the opportunity to conduct all their student check-in procedures.
The Office of International Education (Atlanta) provides a broad array of services and has several international advisors available to all international students. Additionally, bi-yearly new student international orientations are held in Savannah to provide timely information to new or transferring F-1 or J-1 students.
At this time the largest GTS international student community is Chinese. In 2007, the GTS Chinese students established a Chinese Student Association which has been providing assistance and community support to new GTS Chinese students as they acclimate to their new surroundings and campus.
