Marketing & Event Coordinator I
Description
Job Purpose: Provide support to a unit's marketing efforts through assisting in the development of communications materials and assistance in planning and conducting marketing related events. Marketing efforts are normally directed towards promoting attendance at unit sponsored events (workshops, symposia, course offerings, etc.) or in programs or services offered by the unit.
Major Responsibilities:
- Draft promotional materials (writing and editing for print, website, newsletters, etc).
- Support event planning and preparation (making/coordinating space reservations and arrangements, registration, materials distribution, etc.).
- May maintain unit's website or portion of site devoted to marketing effort.
- Provide prompt and informed responses to customer inquiries.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education: Technical Diploma, Associate's Degree or two years college course work.
- Work Experience: 2-4 years
- Certifications:
- Skills: written communications, customer service, event planning and coordination, website maintenance, basic marketing concepts and practices.
Qualifications
Note: This position will be based in Savannah & will report to Communications Manager in DLPE in Atlanta)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience (academic, client, or agency environment) in developing and executing marketing and communications plans
- Experience in handling media/public relations inquiries and in proactively positioning story ideas
- Has planned and executed marketing campaigns to include direct mail and interactive and developed communications materials such as brochures, fact sheets, and articles for publications
- Comfortable in negotiating and maximizing sponsorship opportunities
- Has managed planning and coordination of large, highly visible events
- Has executed internal (DLPE staff and Georgia Tech community) communications plans to support the organization’s business goals and objectives
- Knowledge and experience in utilizing traditional and new forms of media (social media)
- Has worked with an email platform (e.g., iContact) to develop and send targeted marketing communications
- Computer skills to include: Windows, Microsoft Office suite, latest Web design/publishing programs/software, Photoshop, and use of a content management system
- Ability to set priorities and problem solve independently
- Experience in working in a high-volume, high-intensity environment
- Impeccable eye for and attention to detail
- Comfortable in interfacing with all levels of an organization

Impact and Influence: This position will interact on a frequent basis with faculty, staff, students, vendors, internal and external media contacts. This position will typically advise and counsel leadership, faculty, and staff. |
Department Description
Distance Learning and Professional Education (DLPE) is a full service educational organization of Georgia Tech that delivers world-class programs and degrees, both non-credit and credit, to six of the seven continents around the globe. During the 2011 fiscal year, DLPE grossed approximately $29.5M in revenue and more than 18,000 students from over 3,300 companies participated in programs. DLPE has four mission and services areas: (1) distance-delivered education, (2) professional masters and non-credit professional/executive programs, (3) English as a Second Language (ESL), and (4) professional meeting room rentals in the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center (GLC). The GLC, home of DLPE, is a 32,000 sq. ft. learning and meeting facility with 27 meeting/classrooms located in Technology Square on the Georgia Tech Atlanta campus.
