The filtration test was just one of many challenges the students faced throughout the past week. Armed with pebbles, sand and ground-up charcoal, students had to filter the pond water through a plastic cylinder. Volunteers from the local engineering firms that sponsored the event graded their final product by its clearness after the water passed through each team of students' home-made filter several times.

In addition to providing teacher recommendations, students have grades at the 80th percentile or better in all mathematics, engineering, technology, and science classes.
