Concessions
Each year, our host facilities offer lunch and snack concessions. There prices in the past have been very reasonable, and a menu and price list is usually distributed in advance.
Coaches' Meeting
Thirty minutes before we kick off the event, the referees will walk through each field challenge with the coaches. Our goal is to answer questions and clarify rules *before* any runs at the table. The meeting will be at the main competition table.
Practice Run
I've look closely at our schedule, and we will be able to hold practice runs at the main competition tables for every team. This will allow our teams to get the feel for the event without having to worry about their scores. We will have two full sets of competition tables this year, which is different from previous years, and our schedule will have less wiggle room between interviews.
Teamwork Activity
This year, instead of conducting teamwork interviews throughout the day, Georgia Qualifiers will involve a teamwork activity. The activity is being kept secret, and will be revealed to organizers (like Georgia Tech Savannah) prior to the competition. All we've heard is, "It's fun. Be ready to laugh."
Team-to-Team Goody Swap
Each year the team-to-team goody swap is a hit with the kids. For the swap, students bring goodies or keepsakes to swap with other students, usually at the end of the day while the judges tally scores. The swap is a great addition to the program, because it gives the teams the chance to interact. Goodies can be as fancy as team-logo pencils or as simple as bags of candy. The swap is not mandatory, but it can be very low cost, and the kids really enjoy it.
Scores and Judging
In short, each of the three areas below count for 1/3 of the final score. All three should be outlined in your coaches' handbooks.
1/3 Field performance (relative scores from tables) and robot design (judged)
1/3 Teamwork and FLL core values (judged)
1/3 Research project (judged)
Invoices, payments
Invoices will be send by e-mail. If your payment is not yet in before the event, please do not worry. We will follow up with teams after the event.
What to Bring
Plan to Bring
- Robot
- Computer with LEGO software
- Extension cord and surge protector
- Props for skits
- Money for lunches
- Goodies for team goody swap (number of teams/students will be e-mailed after registration)
Please do not bring
Please do *not* bring your practice field. Teams are not to bring their field mats and set ups to the event. We won’t have enough space for nine mats to be rolled out and set up. Instead, teams will share practice fields, which will be provided for you at the event.
