Implementation Teams Announced for Georgia Tech-Savannah Transition
In August 2011, Provost Rafael L. Bras selected Nelson Baker, Vice Provost of Distance Learning and Professional Education, to lead the implementation of new operational and academic models for Georgia Tech-Savannah. Baker quickly engaged key constituents including current students and community leaders to learn more about their needs in order to establish a thorough and thoughtful process. As a result, Baker has assembled and appointed six implementation teams to focus on key initiatives as identified in the Task Force Report, “Defining a Path Forward for Georgia Tech Savannah.”
The implementation teams will concentrate on emerging programs in the following areas: Applied Research, Community Outreach, Continuing Education and Executive Education, Experiential Learning, Military Educational Programs , Organizational and Administrative Development, and Professional Master's Programs.
Team Chairs are:
- Applied Research: Chris Barnes and Tom Horton
- Communications: Patrice Miles
- Continuing/Executive Education: Bill Holm and Brian Jennings
- Experiential Learning: Patrick Antony
- K-12 K-12K-12 Community Outreach: Rich Millman
- Military Educational Programs: Bill Holm and Brian Jennings
- Organizational and Administrative Development: Chet Warzynski
- Professional Master Degree Programs: Nelson Baker and Terrye Schaetzel
In addition to the Chairs, each group will be comprised of individuals from the Savannah campus, the Atlanta campus plus industry and business professionals. Starting with a strategic planning session in September, team chairs will analyze viable options for the campus with delivery of a final report by January 1, 2012. Approved recommendations will be executed within the first quarter of 2012.
“Each initiative is critical to the transition strategy to invest in the Savannah region,” Baker said. “We have committed team leaders to identify strong recommendations for implementation and who will help in prioritizing our direction.”
